William "Bill" Stark

WILLIAM STARK
William “Bill” Stark, 95, Phillips, died in the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff on Monday, March 7, 2015. He was born in Phillips on October 6, 1920, the son of Joseph and Mary (Rames) Stark. He served his country in the US Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Action during WWII. He was married to Esther Slatinsky in Waukon, Iowa, on August 6, 1960. He operated the Studebaker dealership in Phillips from 1950 to 1965, and then owned and operated Stark Brothers Manufacturing in Phillips with his brother, Louis. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Phillips, of the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778 of Phillips, and of the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, working in his shop on many projects, eating sweets, and discussing military history. He had a very giving spirit, and had a great love for animals, and in later years enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Mandy.
He is survived by one son, Arnold (Theresa), Upson, Phillips, by four grandchildren, Scott (Laura) Upson, Alicia Carlson, Heidi (Michael) Babcock, and Mark Wenzel; by three great grandchildren; by one sister, Amy Filus, Phillips; and by one step-sister, Helen Baster, Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, on July 7, 2004; and is also preceded in death by one brother, Louis; by a half-brother, Joseph; and by a step-brother, Frank Kubak.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 11, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips with Pastor Matthew Arneson of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122 and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
