Roy M. Jones, Jr., 88, Township of Worcester, died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. He was born on August 12, 1926, in Colon, Panama,
The son of Colonel Roy M.. Sr., and Sallie (Collins) Jones .He spent his early life and schooling in various schools across the country. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW2 in the Pacific Theatre of Action on the USS Ticonderoga. He then attended and graduated from UCLA with the Class of 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education..
He was married to Karen Pippenger on May 30, 1958, in Glendale, Ca., They made their home in Phillips in 1959. He was employed by Phillips High School as a Physical Education Teacher and also football coach from 1959 until the time of his retirement.
Following their retirement they owned and operated Riverside Antique and Restoration until 2000.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #225, Phillips, was active in Northwoods Players Madrigals for many years, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends
During his teaching career he received his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology
He is survived by 2 children: Peter (Brenda) Jones, Ladysmith, and Susan (Ralph) Yerex, Greensboro, N.C., by 1 sister-in-law Doris (Charles) Ely, and by 1 brother-in-law William “Pip” Pippenger and by his canine companion, Jake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Karen on July 21, 2012, and by 2 brothers: William and Robert.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, Phillips, with Masonic Lodge #225 presiding. The Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778 and the Lane-Kreiling American Post #122, both of Phillips, will accord military Honors. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 until the time of the service.
A memorial Fund has been established.
