Robert Bernard Thieme passed away at home on March 5th, 2017. He was born August 31st, 1923, in Phillips, Wi., to Morris and Helen (Kemp) Thieme. Robert is a 1941 graduate of Phillips High School. He enlisted in the Marines, where he served as a paratrooper in World War II. He was wounded in the battle of Iwo Jima and was awarded a Purple Heart. Robert later went on to attend UW-River Falls where he obtained a BS in Elementary Education and an MS in Education. He was proud of his years as a teacher in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. Later in life, Robert returned to his hometown of Phillips, Wi., where he actively practiced his faith in God by helping other, stocking the food pantry at his church, and doing nursing home visitation.

Robert is survived by his sons, Richard (Carmen) Thieme, Charles (Celeste) Thieme, and his daughter Janet (Eric) Jung, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Robert is preceded in death by a son Robert Thieme, parents, Morris and Helen Thieme, brothers, William, John, James, and Harold Thieme, and sisters, Leona Kozub, Sue Henline, and Catheryn Baker.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Heindl Funeral Home, 304 N. Avon Ave., Phillips, Wi., Visitation will be held at the Maranatha Baptist Church, N9310 Old 13 Rd, Phillips, Wi., on Saturday, March 11th, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Christian Markle officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778 and the Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post #122, both of Phillips. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Phillips at a later date.

He will be sadly missed by many.
