Peter Joseph Shukala, 84, Town of Elk, Phillips, died at his home on Saturday, June 14, while under the care of his family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born on May 5, 1930, in Lugerville, the son of Manny and Katherine (Shukala) Bolz. He served his country during the Korean Was in the United States Army from 1952 to 1960. He was married to Charlene Susan Allan in Hayward, on July 3, 1984. He served as a Deputy Sheriff under Paul Gehring, was employed by Phillips Plastics Corporation, by Price County as a Maintenance Supervisor, and as Foreman by the Town of Flambeau. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family, working with his hound dogs, fishing, and deer, turkey, bear, and coon hunting. He was a member of the Price County Amvets Post No. 50.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; by five children: Sharon Shukala, Phillips, Joyce (Jeff) Peterson, North Prairie, WI, Nancy (Mark) Lazar, Tony, Susan Luzinski-Johnson, Green Bay, and Catherine Shukala Uhren, Eagle River; by eight grandchildren; by three brothers: Manny (Jeannette) Bolz, Baraboo, Bob (Pat) Bolz, Phillips, and Jim (Vicki) Bolz, Monroe, WI; by two sisters: Lillian (Marion) Berndt, Monroe, WI, and Kathy (Todd) Walker, Phillips; by brother-in-law, Wayne Stade, Phillips; by sister-in-law, Audrey Bolz, Baraboo; and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine and by his stepfather, Manny Bolz; by one brother, Louie “Butch” Bolz; and by one sister, Helen Stade.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of services. Military honors will be conducted by the Price County Amvets Post No. 50, the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778, and the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122.
