.MATTHEW GRADINJAN
Matthew Gradinjan, 81, Fifield, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. He was born on January 17, 1938, in Phillips, the son of Matthew and Rose (Sand) Gradinjan. He was a 1955 graduate of the Phillips High School, and later went on to attend Northland College in Ashland where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was married to Shirley Karnosh in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Phillips on August 18, 1962. He taught at the Menomonee Falls High School in Menomonee Falls, WI, and following his retirement from teaching owned and operated the A&W Restaurant in Phillips from 1990 to 1995. In later years he was employed the Car Washer in Park Falls where he truly enjoyed interacting with the customers and “keeping the operation running.” In his free time he was an outdoors enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, gardening, spending time with his family, and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 57 years; by four children, Kristine (Perry) Koffke, Kewaskum, WI, Sally (Orville) Witthoeft, Overland Park, KS, Mark (Lea), Campbellsport, WI, and Nicole (Alex) Sakac, Richfield, WI; by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and by three sisters, Patricia (Dale) Marohl, Pulaski, WI, Mary Schwalenberg, Potter, WI, and Kathleen (Wayne) Svoboda, River Falls, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents, and by one brother, Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 14, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fifield with Father Shaji Pazhukkathara celebrating the Funeral Mass. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Interment will be in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. The family suggests that memorials take the form of an offering to the St. Francis Catholic Church window restoration fund. A project that was important to Matt.
