MARTIN ARTHUR ORTMANN

Martin A. Ortmann, 82, Phillips, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau. He was born on January 24, 1934, in Milwaukee, the son of Herman and Theresa (Bozdech) Ortmann.
He spent his early life and schooling in Milwaukee. He attended and graduated from Custer High School, Class of 1953. He was married to Jeanette Blum on November 10, 1954 in Waukesha County, Wi.
He served in the Wisconsin National Guard in West Bend, Wi., from 1955 to 1961.
He was employed as a postal letter carrier in Milwaukee from 1956 to 1974. They made their home in the Phillips area in 1974 when they purchased Lake 10 Tavern and Resort which they operated from 1974 to 1982. He was then employed by the Phillips School District as a custodian until the time of his retirement in 1996.
In his free time he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling throughout the United States, making maple syrup, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years Jeanette, Phillips, by his five daughters:
Deborah (Bruce) Reinke, Carol (Steve) Kind, all of Phillips, Jeanne (Crystal Hogan) Cordova, Tenn., Karen Meyer, Phillips, and Tina (Don) Posch, Duluth, Minn., by 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 22, 2016, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, Phillips, with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. on Friday, Apr. 22, 2016, at the church until the time of the service.
Military Honors will be conducted by the Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post #122, and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778, both of Phillips.
Inurnment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Phillips.
The Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, is in charge of the arrangements.
