Luella Irene Moore

February 25, 1933 — January 6, 2023

Luella Irene (Wanish) Moore passed away January 6, 2023, at Riverview Health Services in Tomahawk at the age of 89. She was born on February 25, 1933, in Catawba, WI to Thomas and Gertrude (Hansen) Wanish. She was married to Jerome Moore for 52 years; he preceded her in death on January 5, 2002.


Luella was a life-long resident of Catawba. She was one of the first female bus drivers in Price County, driving bus for 37 years. She received an award for her quick action in saving a child choking on one of her bus routes. She took great pride in transporting the children.


Luella enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bingo, and spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed nothing more than a visit from her little ones. For many years she kept the Village of Catawba clean of garbage, taking great pleasure in cleaning up the area.


She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Roger) Arndt of Kennan, and Nancy of Sparta; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl of Catawba; son-in-law, Tom Sarkkinen of Brantwood; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Allen Hardinger.


She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerome; son Howard; daughter, Sherry; and 10 brothers and sisters.


A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the Catawba Cemetery at a later date. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
