KAREN EILEEN STRAND

Karen E. Strand, 70, Town of Elk, died on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at her home under the care of her family.
She was born on September 18, 1946, in Ladysmith, Wi., the daughter of Robert E. and Pearl (Anderson) Swenson. She spent her early life and schooling in Hawkins and was a graduate of Hawkins High School, Class of 1964. She was employed for a period at Pearson Candy Company in Minneapolis prior to her marriage.
She was married to Joseph Strand on June 5, 1965, in Ladysmith. They celebrated over 51 years of marriage together. Following their marriage she joined her husband Joseph
in his military career living in Germany and then in the United States. They made their home in the Town of Elk in 1984.
In her free time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and Artex painting before complications with M.S. prevented her from using her hands.
She is survived by her husband Joseph, Town of Elk, by 1 son: Joseph A.” Jr.” (Jessica) Strand, St. Cloud, Wi., by 1 granddaughter: Julianna Mae Strand, by 6 brothers: Robert (Margie) Swenson, Chicago, Ill., Carl (Ester) Swenson, South Carolina, Melvin and Norman Swenson both of Prentice, Larry Swenson, Menominee, Wi., and Fred Swenson, Bemidji, Minn., by 1 sister Louise Hanson, Fridley, Minn., by other family and friends including
Her sister-in-law Barb Strand, Town of Elk.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by 1 brother Edwin Swenson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, with Deacon James Celba officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Phillips. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home until the time of the service on Friday, April 7, 2017.
