James Charles Polacek

JAMES POLACEK
James Charles Polacek, 76, Phillips, Town of Worcester, died in the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls on Thursday, January 15, 2015. He was born in Phillips on October 25, 1938, the son of Peter and Helen (Flietner) Polacek. He was a 1956 graduate of the Phillips High School. Following high school he was employed by Phillips Farm Equipment until he entered the Army in January of 1960. He served his country in the U.S. Army from January of 1960 to 1964 and then served in the Army Reserves until 1967. He was married to Jean Rose Tingo Hradnansky in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Phillips on November 27, 1965. Following his military service he was employed by Warga Brothers Garage in Phillips until 1965 when he became one of the founding partners of P&J Equipment. In 1977 he assumed total operation of the business which became Polacek Implement Inc. He operated the business until the time of his retirement in 2004 at which time his sons Charles and David continued the operation of the business. He was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, of the Price County Antique Association, of the Lane Kreiling Post No. 122 of the American Legion, and an Honorary Member of the Phillips F.F.A.. In Jim’s free time he enjoyed baking, making fun things for his grandchildren, including a Ferris wheel, a train, a 1909 International Auto Wagon, and jump ropes. He also enjoyed working with his sawmill and restoring Allis Chalmers tractors.
He is survived by Jean, his wife of 49 years; by nine children, Barb (Jim) Dunbar, Marenisco, MI, Linda (Bob) Dunbar, Arbor Vitae, WI, Charles, Phillips, Janet (Steve) Maier, Jim Falls, WI, Joan (Lee) Endres, Hastings, MN, Laura (Scott) Upson, Phillips, David (Malia), Phillips, Lisa (Shawn) Shaver, Catawba, and Julie (Tony) Lesch, Wyoming, MN; by22 grandchildren and by two great grandchildren; by four brothers and sisters, Edward (Betty), Appleton, WI, Shirley (Kevin) Hemp, Phillips, Diane (Wayne) Morey, Brantwood, and Bill (Sue), Phillips; and by his faithful companion, his cat “Kits.” He is preceded in death by his parents, and by one sister, Marilyn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 24, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father Gerald Hagen and Deacon James Celba celebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at St. Therese Catholic Church on Friday, January 23 after 4:30 P.M.. The Parish Wake Service will be held at the church at 7:00 P.M. on Friday Evening with Deacon James Celba officiating.
