George Blomberg

April 16, 1940 — December 21, 2022

George Francis Blomberg, 82, of Ogema, WI, completed his earthly journey on December 21, 2022, at Aspirus Hospital of Wausau, WI.

George “Stub” was born April 16, 1940, in Ogema, WI, to the late George and Lillian Blomberg. He was the youngest of 14 children. George completed his high school education at Rib Lake High School in 1958. He spent two years with a traveling gospel team, where he met his future wife. George attended Bethel College in MN, and at the age of 23 married Hope Sundeen of Cook, MN.

George worked for a trucking company while attending River Falls State College and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Agriculture Science Education and Industrial Arts. For 15 years he and Hope made their home in Barron, WI, where they raised their 4 children and were active in their church and community. During that time George taught agriculture at the high school and college levels and owned and operated farm equipment and construction businesses.

In 1985, George and Hope moved to the Ashland area where he once again taught high school and college level agriculture, and where they helped start Grace Bible Fellowship, a church in Washburn, WI.

In 2000, they moved back to Ogema and have since made their home in the original Blomberg homestead, hosting yearly family reunions. While in Ogema, George was also active serving his community as part of several town boards and committees as well as the Wisconsin Farm Bureau.

George was a man who loved Jesus from an early age and was a living example of God’s love and generosity. His children were blessed beyond measure to have had the benefit of his and their mom’s strong guidance. George lived a full life, often enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, serving others, singing, teaching, and regular involvement in his church. He left an imprint on the lives of so many, living and guiding with wisdom and kindness. He was a man of faith, and he loved his family well. George also loved his country and was a staunch supporter of our constitution and military.

George is survived by Hope, his wife of 59 ½ years; his 4 children: Keven (Laura) of Ogema, WI; Jim (Kristal) of Bryant, WI; Keith (Billie) of Durham, NC; and Jodi (Kevin) of Negaunee, MI; 14 grandchildren (plus 7 spouses) and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as two siblings, Lyle Blomberg and Edythe Gravley.

A celebration of George’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Ogema Baptist Church, W5091 State Road 86, Ogema, WI 54459. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., a luncheon will follow the service. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
