Clara G. Stanke, 85, Phillips, longtime resident of the Township of Emery, died on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips.
She was born on April 21, 1929, in Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Sturm) Elmer. She spent her early life and schooling in Park Falls. She attended and graduated from Park Falls High School with the Class of 1947. She was married to Lawrence Stanke on May 29, 1948, in Phillips. Following their marriage they made there home in the Township of Emery. Lawrence preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1996.
She was active in church and community affairs always willing to help in any way that she could. She was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church the Catholic Daughters of the church, the Emery Homemakers, a leader of the Countryside 4H of Emery and the VFW Auxilary of Phillips.
In her youth she enjoyed playing softball for Emery and Lugerville softball teams, gardening, sewing, canning, baking, crafts, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Gary (Theresa) Wausau, Joseph (Jodi) Ogema, Marjorie Langreck, and Daniel (Joan) , all of Phillips, and Cynthia (Allen) Lobermeier, Ladysmith, by 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 sister Violet Rose Dunbar, Brantwood
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Lawrence, by 1 granddaughter Kristina, and by 1 brother Melvin “Bucky” Elmer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, with Deacon James Celba officiating. Inurnment will be in the Emery Cemetery, Township of Emery.
Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, from 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2104 until the time of the service.
