Bessie Janacek, 101, Phillips died on Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home Phillips surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 28, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Vaclav and Anna (Babicka) Novak. She made her home in Chicago as a child. She attended school in Chicago. She then obtained a degree in business writing
in 1928 and then received a degree in beauty culture in 1929.
She was married to Stephen Janacek on January 23, 1932, in Chicago. They made their home in the Phillips area in 1946, where they owned and operated a dairy farm.
Her husband Stephen preceded her in death in 1957. She remained on the dairy farm for many years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge of Phillips.
In her free time she enjoyed gardening, her baking especially her colaches and sweet breads, sewing for her grand and great grandchildren, and in her later years crocheting for her grand, great- grand and great- great grandchildren.
She is survived by 3 children: Marion (Melvin “Butch”) DeLasky, and Steven (Charlotte) Janacek, all of Phillips, and Larry Janacek, Marshfield, Missouri, by 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 5 great- great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband , by her parents, by 1 son James and by 1 infant son Eddie.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Phillips.
