Adeline Marie Simurdiak, 87, Phillips, died at her home at Duroy Terrace Apartments on Saturday, January 10, 2015, while under the care of her family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. She was born in the Town of Hackett on November 18, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Elsa (Glissendorf) Hainy. She attended Wittman Grade School and Phillips High School. She married Joseph Simurdiak at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Phillips on September 15, 1945. She and Joe operated a dairy farm in the Town of Emery, and later in life she worked in food service at Duroy Terrace Apartments. She was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church of Phillips, was active in the Council of Catholic Women, and taught CCD for many years. She served as a Leader for Countryside 4-H, was a Charter Member of East Highland Homemakers Club, and with Joe was active in local square dance and polka clubs. In her younger years, she sang on the radio and at area schools with her sister, Gayle, as The Hainy Sisters. In her free time she enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, playing music (piano, organ, and guitar), and traveling the United States. Her greatest joy was in entertaining her family and friends at her home with coffee and fresh bakery.
Adeline is survived by Joe, her husband of 69 years; by three children Ken (Barbara), Rochester, MN, Ron (Elizabeth), Phillips, and Jane (Andy) Groeper, Metamora, IL; by nine grandchildren, Ken Jr., Kristie, Mike, Joe, John, Jenna, Michelle, Emily, and Jonathan, and by 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Szarmack and Gayle Hladish, and by two brothers, Bryal and Owen Hainy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father Bill Johnson, SJ, officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips after 4:00 P.M. on Friday, January 16, and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. The Parish Wake Service will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 P.M. on Friday with Deacon James Celba officiating.
The family suggests that memorials take the form of an offering in Adeline's name to the St. Therese Building Fund, Flambeau Home Health and Hospice, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
