Reubin Arnold Schmidt

REUBIN A. SCHMIDT
Reubin A. Schmidt passed away at his home while under the care of his
family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice on April 13, 2018, at the age of
92. Reubin was born on July 14, 1925, in Thorp, WI, to parents Fredrick and
Frances (Verkielen) Schmidt. Reubin grew up in the Thorp area, working on
the family farm and attending St. Bernard's School. He entered the U.S.
Army in 1945 and served through 1947, serving in Germany. Upon his return
he married Margaret "Mugs" Baker on June 3, 1947. They farmed in Dorchester
for 10 years and moved to Abbotsford, and raised 3 daughters. Reubin
started working at L.C. Christensen and Son. He became a partner in
Christensen, Gambort, Schmidt Livestock, buying and selling both dairy and
beef cattle in the area, in other states, Mexico and Puerto Rico. They
bought a camper and enjoyed traveling the United States with family. Upon
retirement Reubin and Mugs moved to Soo Lake, Phillips. For several
years they spent winter months in Davenport, FL. Reubin took up carpentry
and spent many hours in his workshop. He was always working on a new project
and made raffle items for the Soo Lake Association. Reubin also became
"caretaker" for various cottage owners. Reubin was ready to lend a helping hand to one and

all whenever needed.

He enjoyed having family and friends spending time with them at the lake.

He went on the WWII Honor Flight in April 2012 accompanied by his
grandson, Andy. He also received a Quilt of Valor in March of 2016. Reubin
was a member of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, of the Frank and
Michael Baran V.F.W. Post No. 5778, and of the Soo Lake Association, A
legacy stone was placed at the Highground in Neillsville, WI, in August of 2015.
He is survived by Mugs, his wife of 70 years; by his three daughters,
Mavis (Ernest) Dyson, Wauwatosa, WI, Arlyne (Thomas) Frane, Phillips, WI,
and Bobbi (Rocky) Schmidt, Colby, WI; by four grandchildren, Kevin (Kris)
Frane, Kelly (Joseph) Gribowski, Andrew (Mandi Patrie) Schmidt, and Erin
(Jamie) Hinker; by 7 great grandchildren, Kandra, Daejo, Madison, Edynn,
Archer, Cash, and Lariah; and by many nieces and nephews and friends. He is
preceded in death by his parents; by four brothers, Edwin, Arthur, Melvin,
and Hermis; and by sisters Rose, Cecilia, Eleanor, and two infant sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 21, at
Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father Gerald Hagen
celebrating the Funeral Mass. Military Honors will be conducted by the
Frank and Michael Baran V.F.W. Post No. 5778 and the Lane Kreiling American
Legion Post No. 122. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30
A.M. until the time of services. Interment will be in the Abbotsford Public
Cemetery in Abbotsford, Wisconsin.
