JOSEPH STOTKA
Joseph “Joe” Charles Stotka, 93, Phillips, died in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 26, 1924, the son of Stefan and Bernardine (Cuhak) Stotka. He was married to May Naomi Surprenant in the former Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Phillips on September 1, 1948. He operated a dairy farm in the Town of Worcester, was employed by the Flambeau Milling Company, and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Phillips as a Clerk. He was a member of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, was a member of and served as an officer of the First Catholic Slovak Union, and as a young man was a member of the Holy Name Society. In his free time he sure enjoyed visiting with his friends of all ages.
He is survived by two sons, John, Phillips, and Andrew, Phillips. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, May; and is also preceded in death by his daughter, Marie; by his brother, Rudolph; and by his sister, Mary Hradnansky.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 15, at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.
